The Bon Festival Dance: A Presentation by Yoshiko Yamanka

Yoshiko Yamanka's presentation will focus on the Bon festival dance, the Japanese traditional folk dance that commemorates the lives of loved ones who have passed away.  During the festival, dancers form circles around a wooden tower while a traditional song is performed with Japanese traditional drums. The festival is held in various communities throughout Japan in the middle of July or August.

Presenter's Bio: Yoshiko Yamanaka was born and grew up in Kyoto, Japan. She began studying Buyo Dance at the age of 6. At age of 12 she became a dancer of Wakayagi school of Buyo Dance. At the age of 21 she was certified as a teacher in the art. 

There is no cost for this program. You don't have to be a member to attend our general meetings. Friends and family are welcome!
