March General Meeting: Remembering Tohoku - The 5th Anniversary

  • Tuesday, March 22, 2016
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Loose Park Garden Center, 5200 Wornall, KC, MO
In our March general meeting, we will be commemorating the 5th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami of March 11, 2011. Many members and friends of the Heart of America Japan-America Society were deeply affected by this tragic event.

One such friend, Wesley Julian, producer and director of Tohoku Tomo, will join us in a virtual conversation about the rebuilding and support that has occurred over the last 5 years. Wesley is a former JET, a current JETAA Chicago president, and former Consulate General of Japan media relations coordinator. His knowledge of and insights into the people who have made a difference in the rebuilding of the Tohoku area will make for an informative and inspiring conversation!

During our meeting, we will watch interviews (in Japanese with English subtitles or in English) conducted by Wesley and his film team for the 113 Project before having a Q&A session with him virtually regarding Tohoku Tomo, the 113 Project, and how the area and its people are recovering 5 years on.

"The 113 Project is a collection of short films inviting you to rediscover Tohoku through the eyes of young adults, local businesses, and other communities rebuilding their lives and working towards the future."

There is no cost to this meeting. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
