October General Meeting

Our October general meeting will feature Hiroko Keightley, a long time HAJAS member, making a presentation on "Sushi Making".

Presenter Bio:

HIroko Keightley was born in Amakusa Island, Kumamoto(Kyushu), Japan at her mother's family home.  Her parents moved to Osaka when she was 2 years old and she calls Osaka is her home town.  Before coming to the U.S., she was a tour conductor, specialized in European tours. 

She got married in Los Angels and moved to Kansas City area where her husband is from in 1993. They have 2 children and including  2 step- daughters, they have 9 grandchildren. Hiroko is a Japanese/English interpreter and a substitute teacher at Raytown School district. She served as a PTA President at Raytown South High School for 2 terms and served as PTA board member for many years even after her children were no longer in school.

Hiroko recalls they had so many guests came to her house growing up. She always watched her mother cooking and serving the guests since she was 5 or 6 years old. The youngest of 3 daughters, Hiroko spent the most time with her mom in the kitchen. She loves to watch people enjoying her cooking and that makes her really happy.

Winter is her favorite time of the season(for food only!), because she can enjoy many different type of "Nabe-pot dish".
