Introduction for Tony Jones CBE                                     

 

Born in Great Britain, Tony Jones is an internationally-known arts administrator, broadcaster, educator, and historian specializing in the art, design, and architecture of the Modern Age. A citizen of both Britain and the United States, Tony was educated at Goldsmith’s College in London, the Newport College of Art in Wales, and in the United States as a Fulbright Scholar. Conferred the title of Commander of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in 2003, Tony holds an MFA from Tulane University and six honorary doctorates.

 Tony has served as Director of the renowned Glasgow School of Art in Scotland, Director of London’s legendary Royal College of Art, and was President of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1986 to 1991, and then again from 1997 to 2012, when SAIC named him Chancellor and President-Emeritus.

 Joining Kansas City Art Institute in 2015 as Interim President, Tony secured the largest gifts given to a college of art and design, and was asked to accept the role permanently,  a position which has since been endowed and named The Nerman Family Presidency.  Please join us in welcoming the 24th President of Kansas City Art Institute, Tony Jones.
