The HAJAS Board regrets to inform all of you that we have cancelled our in-person GKCJF scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Johnson County Community College. It was an extremely difficult decision since we also cancelled our 2020 GKCJF. But we did replace the 2020 festival with a 2020 Virtual GKCJF which you can still see on our website at: kcjapanfestival.org.
After many discussions with the staff at JCCC, our GKCJF Committee and our HAJAS Board, it became obvious that with all of the issues surrounding COVID-19, the logistics of keeping attendees separated and masked, and the very crowded areas all over the Midwest Trust Center and the Regnier Center, that holding the festival this year would be problematic. If we reduced / limited attendance, we would reduce our needed ticket sales income and put our festival and society in a precarious financial situation.
In addition, with all of the large amount of planning that occurs before the festival, we would be expending much time and effort that may not be used. But the good news is that the date for our 2022 GKCJF is Saturday, October 8, 2022, at JCCC. We are already beginning planning for 2022 and hope to have many special events and presenters.
